The Ministries of Interior and Municipalities, Foreign Affairs and Emigrants issued a statement today, Thursday, stating: “The joint committee between the two ministries held its first meeting this morning at the Ministry of Interior building, in the presence of Ministers Ahmad Hajar and Youssef Raji, to discuss the implementation of the minute provisions of Chapter Eleven of the law on the election of members of the Parliament, relating to the voting of Lebanese non-residents on Lebanese territory.”

The statement mentioned: “The two ministers said during the meeting that the committee has begun its meetings in implementation of the procedures and deadlines imposed by the current law, regardless of the discussions and proposals taking place at the level of the Parliament and the Council of Ministers regarding the election law.

The statement added: “The two ministers also affirmed that the committee will study the articles related to the voting of Lebanese non-residents, and review the report prepared in 2021, provided that it submits at the conclusion of its work a detailed report on the results of its study and recommendations.”

At the end of the statement: “They added that holding parliamentary elections on time is a national priority, stressing the importance of ensuring effective participation of Lebanese expatriates around the world in a way that enshrines their right to vote transparently and smoothly, and enhances the confidence of Lebanese people in the electoral process and in state institutions.”
