The first meeting of the Supreme Agricultural Council, formed under Resolution No. 520/1 dated September 24, 2025, and based on the decree organizing the Ministry of Agriculture, was held at the Ministry’s headquarters.
The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Nizar Hani, as Chairman of the Council, and was attended by the Vice President, the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Louis Lahoud, the Director General of Cooperatives, Engineer Gloria Abu Zaid, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at the Lebanese University, Dr. Nadine Nassif, in addition to members Dr. Shadi Hamadeh, Dr. Lara Wakim, and Dr. Khair Al-Jarrah, while Dr. Muhammad Al-Husseini was absent for health reasons.
During the meeting, Minister Hani reviewed the objectives that led to the formation of the Council, and the work program that it will follow. He affirmed that “the purpose of establishing the Council is to assist the Ministry of Agriculture in supporting the national agricultural sector,” and pointed out that “the Council will keep pace with the sector’s files in various fields, and will be a consultative framework supporting the policies and programs implemented by the Ministry.”
Hani also expressed his wishes for success to the members of the Council in their tasks, and praised “the scientific and professional diversity that characterizes the Council, which will enhance its ability to propose practical solutions and appropriate recommendations for the existing agricultural challenges.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Supreme Agricultural Council identified the necessary priorities that it will adopt in its future work. This is in preparation for developing a comprehensive implementation plan that will be presented in future meetings, with the aim of ensuring the continuity of institutional work and unifying efforts among all parties concerned with the agricultural sector.
