A report issued by “OpenAI” revealed the extent of “ChatGPT” usage by millions of users, especially in inquiries related to mental health, which raises growing concerns about individuals’ reliance on smart chatbots in this sensitive area.

The report revealed important information, as many users rely on “ChatGPT” for weekly conversations addressing mental health issues, including expressing suicidal thoughts. In addition, the report indicated that many “ChatGPT” users are forming an emotional connection with the chatbot.

The company also highlighted the security improvements and measures it is taking to provide appropriate assistance to “ChatGPT” users, and “OpenAI” explained that about 0.15% of weekly active users conduct conversations that include clear indications of potential suicide planning.

This number is estimated at more than one million users per week, based on the fact that “ChatGPT” has more than 800 million weekly active users, as thousands of users show signs indicative of psychosis or mania.

“OpenAI” revealed, through this data, that it has collaborated with more than 170 mental health experts to improve the current model in responding to inquiries related to mental health issues.

Regarding the user’s emotional attachment and sensitive topics, it is said that the new “GPT-5” model provides 42% fewer problematic responses compared to the “GPT-4o” model, and the report confirmed that it responds more appropriately and consistently than previous versions.

Now, “OpenAI’s” role is not limited to protecting young people, but also includes individuals suffering from mental health problems, as the company stated that the “GPT-5” model is more effective, and emphasized its continuous call to evaluate and enhance the behavior of models in these areas.
