Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova issued a statement on Tuesday to French President Emmanuel Macron, suggesting that he focus his forces’ efforts on protecting French museums instead of thinking about sending them to Ukraine.

“Zakharova” wrote on her “Telegram” channel: “Based on statistics for the year 2025, there are 1,123 museums in France. It is better for Macron to direct his soldiers, in the form of bilateral teams, to guard these cultural sites, to avoid a repeat of what happened at the Louvre Museum, especially with the deterioration of the internal security situation and the spread of manifestations of chaos.”

This statement comes in the wake of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service’s announcement, on Tuesday, of France’s readiness, upon Macron’s order, to deploy a military force of 2,000 soldiers and officers in Ukraine to support Kiev in the ongoing war. The agency noted in its statement: “In implementation of Macron’s directives, the General Staff of the French Armed Forces is preparing a military unit numbering up to 2,000 soldiers and officers to be deployed in Ukraine, with the aim of supporting the Kiev regime.” The statement added, “The backbone of this force will be stormtroopers affiliated with the French Foreign Legion, most of whom belong to Latin American countries.”

The agency also explained, based on the information it collected, that “the Corps has already deployed in the areas bordering Ukraine, within Polish territory, where it is undergoing intensive combat training.”

It is noteworthy that on October 19, thieves broke into the Louvre Museum and stole 8 precious antiquities, valued at approximately $102 million. The theft revealed a flaw in security procedures, as the thieves were able to enter the museum, which is considered the most visited in the world, using a crane. They broke a window on the upper floor during working hours, then fled on motorcycles.
