An important meeting was held in the office of the Minister of Interior and Municipalities, Ahmed El Haggar, today, where he chaired the meeting of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, in the presence of representatives of various ministries and relevant administrations, in addition to a number of associations specialized in this vital field.

The discussion during the meeting revolved around the best ways to develop the national strategy to reduce horrific traffic accidents, with a focus on strengthening effective coordination between all concerned parties, with the aim of applying traffic safety standards on the roads in a comprehensive and integrated manner.

Minister El Haggar stressed the utmost importance that the Lebanese state and its citizens attach to the issue of traffic safety, noting that “the issue of traffic safety is a priority for the Lebanese state and citizens.” He expressed his concern about the increase in the number of traffic accident victims in 2025 compared to the previous year, based on official statistics.

He stressed that “our meeting today is an affirmation of the collective responsibility of all relevant ministries and organizations and everyone who has an impact in this field.” He pointed out that after the first meeting, contact was made with the concerned ministries and administrations regarding the recommendations issued, as the first item aims to assess what has been achieved, while the second item is concerned with presenting the guiding plan for traffic safety prepared by the secretary of the National Council for Traffic Safety, Dr. Ramzi Salameh, which will be completed later by the Supreme Council for Traffic Safety.

The Minister added that “there are several issues on the table related to reconsidering traffic fines, motorcycles, and exam curricula for motorcycles and other vehicles, and the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities will work to implement the decisions in coordination with those concerned, and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in the first degree, and all other relevant ministries and administrations.”

Minister El Haggar announced that “the Ministry of Interior has completed the preparation of its strategic plan for the next three years, and traffic safety is one of its main pillars,” expressing his hope that “the activation of the committee’s work will be the beginning of a long journey to preserve people’s lives and avoid more victims in traffic accidents.”

For his part, the Secretary of the National Council for Traffic Safety, Ramzi Salameh, presented a comprehensive presentation on the traffic safety situation in Lebanon, highlighting the main challenges and proposed solutions to address them.
