The head of the Lebanese Kataeb Party, “Sami Gemayel,” strongly criticized the positions of the Speaker of the Parliament, “Nabih Berri,” considering his statements regarding the participation of expatriates in the upcoming parliamentary elections as “leading to the isolation of a sect” unacceptable.

Through the “X” platform, “Gemayel” wondered: “Mr. President, by what logic can the exercise by hundreds of thousands of Lebanese expatriates, from all sects and regions, of their constitutional right to determine the fate of their country be considered as “isolating a sect?”

The head of the Kataeb affirmed that “the one who seeks to isolate a sect from the rest of the Lebanese is the one who rejects the logic of the state and equality, and clings to his weapon and his ideological connection to Iran, even in the difficult times when it abandons him.”

“Gemayel” added, addressing “Berri”: “In any case, your opinion does not give you the right to prevent the Council from resolving this discussion in a public session, as the Council represents all Lebanese people and is the final decision-maker.”

It is worth mentioning that the Lebanese Kataeb was among the parties that strongly defended the right of expatriates to fully participate in the electoral process, considering that depriving them of voting on all lists and seats constitutes “unacceptable discrimination and cancellation of a free national voice.”
