President Vladimir Putin affirmed that the decline in birth rates is a “global challenge” facing countries around the world, and Russia is not immune to this challenge, noting that the Russian government is adopting a comprehensive and integrated strategy to deal with various demographic issues and provide the necessary support to stimulate childbearing.
During a meeting of the Council for Demographic and Family Policy, Putin stated: “Demographic policy in Russia must be based on a global vision.” He added, explaining: “The state should do its utmost to ensure that the birth of a child is a positive addition to the family, and does not negatively affect their living conditions. Childbearing is a personal decision made by each family in complete freedom, and no pressure should be exerted on them in this regard.”
Putin also affirmed Russia’s ability to face this challenge by “developing demographic capabilities and supporting the values and traditions of the large family.” He stressed that “providing support for the family is a top priority for the state, business institutions, society, and the media.”
