In its continuous endeavor to protect state property and preserve public facilities, especially railway and public transportation assets, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced in an official statement that the competent judicial and security authorities, based on complaints submitted by the Railway and Public Transport Authority, have begun taking the necessary measures to remove a series of encroachments on the property belonging to the Authority in the “Araya” area.

The ministry affirmed that this blessed step comes as a result of the diligent follow-up by the Minister of Public Works and Transport: “Fayez Rasamny,” and fruitful cooperation between the ministry and other concerned agencies, within a comprehensive path aimed at ending all encroachments on railway property in various Lebanese regions, in preparation for reactivating this vital facility and investing it optimally to serve the public interest.

The ministry also clarified that the Railway and Public Transport Authority had submitted similar claims in other areas and is awaiting the completion of the necessary judicial procedures for their removal, stressing that it will not hesitate to prosecute anyone who attacks its property within the framework of the laws and regulations in force.

The ministry concluded its statement by expressing its gratitude to the Lebanese judicial authorities and security agencies for their prompt response and efforts in implementing these measures, affirming its full support for continuing these steps in all locations that witness similar encroachments, in order to preserve the prestige of the state and protect public facilities from any exploitation or violation.

This step falls within a comprehensive plan launched by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport with the aim of reviving the railway sector, which has faced great challenges for decades, most notably encroachments on the Authority’s property and the absence of real investment in this vital facility. These measures are expected to contribute to providing the necessary spaces to restart railway lines within sustainable transport projects that the Lebanese government is working on in cooperation with international bodies.
