After the decline in fuel oil by about 80 thousand… What about commodity prices?

Fuel prices have witnessed a continuous decline since September 26 until today, with this decline approaching 80 thousand, while the prices of consumer goods have not declined at all, but rather inflated prices unjustifiably, amid complete neglect by the regulatory authorities or the ministers concerned.

The representative of fuel distributors in Lebanon, Fadi Abu Chakra, confirmed to Lebanon Debate, “The decline in fuel reached 21,000 on gasoline, to become 1,415,000 Lebanese pounds, and diesel fell by 17,000, to become its price 1,334,000 Lebanese pounds. He explained that the reason for the decline is the decline in global oil prices and the rise in gold prices, which reflects a decrease in oil prices.”

He points out that “this matter directly affects Lebanon, in a positive way, for the benefit of the citizen, especially since the Lebanese today are on the cusp of winter and their need for diesel fuel, especially in the mountainous regions, under difficult economic conditions.”

He, as fuel distributors, hoped for “a further reduction in the interests of the citizen first, and for the Lebanese industries, with lower costs.”

Concerned sources ask: “Why do the prices of consumer goods not decrease in Lebanon, especially since the argument of high prices has always been linked to the rise in fuel prices, while transportation has become less expensive and also industries’ fuel bills have decreased, and therefore this must be reflected in the markets by lowering prices, not inflating them?”

The sources confirm that “the absence of oversight is what drives merchants in Lebanon to easily raise prices and not adhere to lowering the bill with the decline in fuel prices. They urged officials to follow up on this matter and not to use the global security situation as an excuse, especially what was happening in the Red Sea in terms of targeting ships, which ended with the end of the war in Gaza.”
