The Committee of Hourly Contracted Professors at the Lebanese University held a meeting with the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Rima Karami, in the presence of her advisor, Dr. Adnan Al-Amin, to discuss the sabbatical file and practical mechanisms to expedite its completion.

According to a statement, Minister Karami informed the committee that “all colleges have completed sending the names of full-time candidates to the university presidency, and the file will be sent to the ministry within two days for review.”

The minister indicated that she would submit the file to the Council of Ministers as soon as it was received from the university presidency, to determine the full-time number, after which the names would be approved according to the agreed-upon criteria, stressing that this procedure would take place “as soon as possible.”

Regarding the hourly wage, the statement confirmed that the president requested a wage increase, but the matter is related to approving the budget first.

It was also announced during the meeting that the Ministry had submitted a draft law allowing full-time attendance at the Lebanese University to become on an annual basis, in parallel with the approval of the current file.

The committee concluded its statement by emphasizing its continued diligent follow-up of the sabbatical file, based on the promises of the President of the Republic and the announcements of the University Council, which confirm that approving a sabbatical represents the basic gateway to the stability of the university and its professors and ensuring the quality of national higher education.
