A fire broke out at dawn today, Sunday, in one of the facilities affiliated with Saudi Aramco in the Jazan region, before the Houthi group claimed responsibility for targeting the refinery with a drone, while the Saudi authorities confirmed that the fire was under control without recording any casualties.
The Saudi Ministry of Energy announced, in a statement published on the “X” platform, that Aramco’s industrial security firefighting teams were able to extinguish the fire that broke out in one of the refinery’s facilities, confirming that the necessary procedures had been completed to determine the causes of the incident.
The Ministry did not reveal the nature of the reasons that led to the outbreak of the fire, only confirming that the incident did not result in any injuries or human losses among workers and field teams.
On the other hand, the spokesman for the armed forces of the “Ansar Allah” group, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced that the group targeted the Aramco refinery in Jizan with a drone, noting that “the hit was accurate.”
Saree added that the operation came in response to what he described as “the Saudi enemy’s penetration” of the airspace of the Saada and Hajjah governorates using drones.
These developments come less than a month after the Jazan refinery, which has a capacity of about 400,000 barrels per day, was damaged, causing it to temporarily stop following previous attacks.
Aramco is the largest oil company in the world, producing approximately 12 percent of the total global oil production, which gives its facilities great strategic importance in the global energy market.
