Yesterday, Sunday, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of two former officers in the ousted regime’s army, Major General Pilot Abdul Razzaq Ibrahim al-Murr and Artillery Officer Karam Hafez Ibrahim, during two separate operations.
The Commander of Internal Security in Aleppo Governorate, Colonel Muhammad Abd al-Ghani, said that Major General al-Murr is wanted on charges of involvement in carrying out air strikes that targeted civilians during the period of the ousted regime’s rule, according to what was reported by the Syrian news agency, SANA.
Abdul Ghani explained that the security forces arrested Major General Al-Murr, as one of those involved in targeting civilians with air strikes over the years.
The security official did not reveal the location of the operation that led to the arrest of the wanted officer or the circumstances of its implementation.
In the same context, the Internal Security Forces arrested artillery officer Karam Hafez Ibrahim, on charges of involvement in war crimes against civilians during the rule of the former regime, in addition to his participation in armed activities targeting the security forces, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
The Ministry said, through its official accounts, that Ibrahim graduated from the Military College with a specialization in artillery, served in several military formations, and also commanded an artillery group in Suwayda Governorate.
She added that Ibrahim participated in the bombing of civilian neighborhoods and areas in Daraa Governorate during the years of the revolution, before he was transferred to the fighting fronts in Homs and Idlib.
The Ministry stated that the detainee participated, during the events of March 6, 2025, in targeting a security convoy, before heading to the Naval College to participate in targeting the security forces with artillery, then fleeing after the security forces regained control of the area.
According to the Interior Ministry’s statement, investigations revealed that Ibrahim participated in one of the incitement gatherings at the invitation of Ghazal Ghazal, and that he possessed a military pistol with the aim of using it against the security forces, in addition to communicating with a person and assigning him to monitor the movements of the Internal Security Forces.
The Ministry confirmed that the detainee was referred to the competent authorities to complete investigations and take the necessary legal measures against him.
On March 6, 2025, the governorates of Latakia and Tartous witnessed security tension following organized attacks carried out by groups affiliated with the former Bashar al-Assad regime against patrols and security checkpoints belonging to the new Syrian government, in the most violent attacks of their kind since the fall of the regime, which resulted in deaths and injuries.
Last June 15, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of 3,484 people from the security and military forces of the ousted regime, including an officer with the rank of general, 42 major generals, 172 brigadier generals, 218 colonels, 112 lieutenant colonels, 73 majors, and 160 captains.
