In a new escalation of the naval blockade measures imposed on Iran, the US Central Command (Centcom) announced the diversion of seven commercial ships and disabling one ship, to prevent it from entering or leaving Iranian ports.
Centcom said, in a post on the “X” platform, that members of the American forces aboard the amphibious assault ship “USS Boxer” continue to support air operations day and night from the Arabian Sea.
She added that as of July 20, the US military had diverted seven commercial ships and disabled one ship, with the aim of preventing ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports.
The command explained that these naval operations are part of the deployment of American forces in the region, to monitor shipping traffic and implement the measures imposed on Iran.
On July 14, the United States began imposing a naval blockade on all Iranian ports and coastal areas.
According to the Joint Maritime Information Center, led by the US Navy, the blockade applies to the movement of all ships, regardless of the flag they fly.
The center explained that the blockade would not impede the passage of neutral ships through the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian destinations, stressing that humanitarian aid shipments would be allowed to cross, provided they are subject to inspection.
