The Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the United States of aborting all efforts made in recent months to reduce tension in the region, while American officials held the Iranian Revolutionary Guard responsible for undermining the course of negotiations between the two sides.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that US President Donald Trump’s claims about the results of the Muscat negotiations held on Saturday were “a pure lie stemming from a state of inability,” stressing that the talks focused on arrangements for managing the Strait of Hormuz and transit routes through it.

She added, “The American regime, with its public interference in our arrangements in the Strait, has caused the return of a state of insecurity,” considering that Washington violated all provisions of the agreement and committed “the most heinous war crimes” by targeting the transportation sector, fishing boats, cargo ships, and meteorological facilities and buildings.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the American attacks targeting Iran during the past 24 hours, considering that they represent a blatant violation of the basic principles of the United Nations Charter, and constitute a serious threat to international peace and security.

On the other hand, the Wall Street Journal quoted American officials as saying that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard undermined the negotiations through repeated attacks, despite the Iranian negotiators’ efforts to move forward with the talks.
