Today, Thursday, Barcelona officially announced its contract with Moroccan defensive midfielder Mehdi Mimouni, coming from the Belgian club Charleroi, to join the Catalan club’s La Masia Academy.
The inclusion of the young Moroccan player is part of Barcelona’s policy of strengthening its ranks with emerging talents and developing them in preparation for reaching the first team.
Spanish media had revealed the deal, and published pictures of the signing of Mimouni, who is 17 years old, and who attracted attention during the last season with Charleroi.
Al-Mimouni was born in Belgium on May 21, 2009, and was the focus of interest from the Dutch clubs PSV Eindhoven and the English club Newcastle, before Barcelona decided to sign him.
The promising player won the Best Young Talent Award at the 2024 “Lion d’or” awards ceremony in the Belgian League, in recognition of his distinguished levels.
Al-Mimouni has dual Moroccan and Belgian nationalities, and has previously represented the Moroccan U-15 national team, and also previously played for the Belgian senior national teams, without his international future being decided once and for all.
The defensive midfielder will join the La Masia Academy, where he is considered one of the most prominent emerging talents in European football, in light of the increasing interest in Moroccan talents born in Europe by major clubs and national federations.
