The committee noted in a statement that “earth companies’ bulldozers have returned to work, at a time when the oversight measures announced by the Ministry of Environment and the relevant parliamentary committees have not led to stopping the violations affecting agricultural lands, vegetation, natural resources, and citizens’ health.”
She wondered about the non-participation of the town of Badbhoun and its representatives in the meetings discussing the repercussions of the quarry file, considering that “its exclusion raises question marks about the seriousness of the approach to the crisis and the extent of adopting transparency and justice in dealing with this file.”
The committee called for “a halt to all excavation and dredging work under the name of ‘investment rehabilitation’, and for the town of Badbhoun to be included in all committees and meetings related to the future of the region, in addition to the official authorities assuming their legal responsibilities in protecting the environment and citizens.”
She stressed that “protecting the environment is a national responsibility,” warning that “continued infringements and non-enforcement of the law threaten citizens’ confidence in state institutions and the principle of equality before the law.”
