High temperatures raised the average volume of electricity demand in France, during the period from April to mid-July, to its highest level since 2022, according to data issued by the European Network of Electricity Transmission Network Operators (ENSO-E) and reported by Bloomberg News, today, Wednesday.
The heat wave that has been sweeping Europe for a long time is causing demand for energy to rise this summer, which will reverse some of the declines in consumption that followed the energy crisis in 2022.
The increase is the first annual increase during this period since the crisis occurred, thus ending three consecutive years of decline.
Europe has seen weeks of unusually hot weather, with successive heatwaves pushing temperatures to record levels, straining power grids.
France recorded the highest daytime temperature and the warmest nighttime temperatures ever, earlier this month, exceeding 44 degrees Celsius.
The extremely high temperatures have caused a surge in interest in air conditioning equipment on the continent, with France spending 100 million euros to quickly provide 30,000 air conditioning units to hospitals by August.
