The Israeli army escalated its operations in southern Lebanon, carrying out a huge explosion before sunset today in the Safita area on the southern outskirts of the town of Yahmar al-Shaqif, which led to a major crack and split in a mountain high, while the sound of the explosion resounded in various southern regions.

The National News Agency reported that the force of the explosion was great, and caused a tremor that was heard in a number of neighboring towns, amid continued Israeli overflights of the region.

In a related context, the Israeli army carried out another bombing in the town of Kafr Tibnit, the second in less than two hours, as part of the ongoing military operations targeting areas in southern Lebanon.

These developments come at a time when the south is witnessing continued field escalation, despite political and communications efforts aimed at maintaining calm and implementing understandings related to the cessation of hostilities.

During the past months, the Israeli army intensified its bombing and bombing operations in a number of border villages and towns, targeting homes, facilities and infrastructure, in conjunction with its continued presence in a number of points inside Lebanese territory.

The escalation also comes on the eve of a new round of Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations scheduled for Rome, during which the Lebanese delegation intends to demand the immediate start of the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the areas it still controls, before looking into any other files, amid continuing field violations that cast a shadow on the course of diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing stability in southern Lebanon.
