Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz canceled their participation in a military ceremony scheduled for Wednesday evening, and held a meeting to discuss national security, amid a state of high alert in Tel Aviv as tensions with Iran escalate.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, the meeting was scheduled to discuss the memorandum of understanding with the United States, but it is expected to also address developments related to Iran, following statements by US President Donald Trump in which he announced the end of the ceasefire with Tehran.
On the other hand, Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir participate in the graduation ceremony of the National Security College course.
The meeting comes at a time when an Iranian official threatened, in statements to Press TV, to close the Strait of Hormuz if Iran was subjected to a new attack, stressing that Tehran will completely close the Strait and will target hostile targets with no less than twice the number of targets being targeted inside Iran.
Despite the state of alert in Israel, estimates indicated that the current escalation would not develop into a comprehensive war, while the newspaper quoted an Israeli official as saying that the belief that Trump had abandoned Israel was “premature.”
