Former Israeli Chief of Staff, Gadi Eisenkot, launched a sharp attack on the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing it of lying and evading responsibility for the failures of October 7, 2023, and demanding the disclosure of war protocols and the formation of an official investigation committee.
Eisenkot said, in a lengthy post on the “X” platform on the occasion of the 1,000th anniversary of the October 7 attack, that three of the four principles of Israeli national security, namely deterrence, warning, and defense, collapsed within 45 minutes of the start of the attack, considering that the government still refuses to bear its responsibility for those failures.
He added that the security leadership has assumed its responsibility, while the government continues to “spread lies and deepen division,” accusing it of making decisions that do not reflect the real needs of Israelis, and of seeking to remain in power by provoking internal divisions.
He also accused Netanyahu and a number of ministers of evading the formation of an official investigation committee, considering that they would go down in history as being politically responsible for the October 7 failures.
Eisenkot refuted what he described as the “lies” being spread against him, denying that he opposed the ground maneuver in Gaza, the Rafah process, reaching prisoner exchange deals, or directing a strike against Iran, stressing that the protocols of the meetings prove the validity of his positions.
Netanyahu called for the publication of war protocols, considering that revealing the truth is the first step to preventing the recurrence of failures, expressing his confidence that the current government will leave power soon, and that an official investigation committee will be formed to hold those responsible accountable.
