The Progressive demands a retreat from the environmental fee: priority goes to Hussein Al-Jabaya

The Progressive Socialist Party issued a statement calling on the government to retract its decision contained in Decree No. 3214, which imposes a new environmental fee on more than 100 imported goods, considering that this decision will increase the fragility of purchasing power, and will inevitably lead to an additional rise in prices and an increase in inflation rates.

The “party” stressed that the priority must be to improve collection, combat tax evasion, and impose fair fees on the sectors that most deplete public resources, most notably crushers and quarries, in addition to the violated marine and river properties.

Al-Taqadudi believed that the alternative is to adopt more fair and effective environmental policies, by imposing fees on only the most polluting products, and involving the Solid Waste Management Authority in preparing alternative policies and plans for waste management, in addition to providing incentives to companies that adopt recyclable materials, supporting waste sorting from the source, and enabling municipalities to manage this file.

In this context, the party recalled its position calling for the adoption of a unified, progressive tax and a tax on wealth, in a way that truly achieves tax justice.
