African teams achieved an unprecedented achievement in the history of the World Cup, with results that exceeded all expectations in the first round of the current edition, which is being held for the first time with a system of 48 teams.

African football, which reached the semi-finals in the 2022 edition for the first time in the history of the World Cup, through the Moroccan national team, obtained the largest number of seats in the finals with ten teams, including 9 that qualified through the continental qualifiers, in addition to the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team, which reached the finals last April through the global playoff.

Africa confirmed that it truly deserves to have its share of the teams participating in the finals reach 10 teams, after the success rate was very high, reaching 70% so far, and one day before the end of the first round competitions.
So far, 7 African teams have qualified for the second round of the 2026 World Cup, namely South Africa (Group A), Morocco (Group C), Côte d’Ivoire (Group E), Egypt (Group Seven), Cape Verde (Group Eight), Senegal (Group Ninth), and Ghana (Group 12).

The number of African teams qualifying for the round of 32 of the tournament will reach exactly 9 out of 10 teams that participated at the beginning of the competition.

The Algerian national team, when it faces Austria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team, which faces Uzbekistan, bet on two additional tickets to Africa in the round of 32, which will raise the number of qualifiers to 9 countries.

Among the African teams that reached the Round of 3, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire and Cape Verde will play a match in the second round of the World Cup for the first time in their history.

Out of 10 African teams in the tournament, the only disappointment was for the Tunisian team, which left the race early and suffered 3 complete defeats in the first round in Group Six.

The Moroccan national team wrote history in the Qatar 2022 edition, when it reached the semi-finals for the first time after an amazing journey, before losing to France.
