Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated the Egyptian national team and the Egyptian fans, after the “Pharaohs” achieved their first victory in the history of their participation in the FIFA World Cup.

Al-Sisi praised the performance of the national team’s players in their World Cup match, considering that the victory reflected the determination and insistence of the people of Egypt to succeed and raise the country’s name.

He stressed that the victory does not represent just a passing result, but rather a promising beginning to continue the journey in the tournament with confidence and ambition, and to delight the Egyptian football fans.

In turn, Minister of Youth and Sports, Gohar Nabil, congratulated the national team players and the technical and administrative staff, praising what he described as the historic achievement of Egyptian football in the global forum.

He said that the victory reflects the strong performance and distinguished level demonstrated by the players, and the efforts made to raise the flag of Egyptian sports in international tournaments.

The Egyptian national team defeated New Zealand 3-1 in the 2026 World Cup, raising its score to 4 points at the top of Group Seven, on the verge of qualifying for the round of 32.

According to the qualification calculations, the Egyptian team needs one point from its last match against Iran to officially guarantee passage, while the victory gives it the lead in the group with 7 points.
