An informed source told Al-Mayadeen TV that the Iranian negotiating delegation suspended its trip to Switzerland, where it was scheduled to participate in the first round of negotiations set within a 60-day deadline, against the backdrop of the continued Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon.
The source explained that the Iranian delegation was already heading to travel and begin the first round of negotiations, before the decision was made to suspend the trip at the last minute.
The source revealed that Tehran had informed the American side and the mediators in advance that the Lebanon file is a central issue for it regarding the course of the negotiations and their continuation or cessation, indicating that the Iranian position directly linked field developments in Lebanon to the fate of the negotiating process.
The source added that Tehran warned that the continuation of Israeli operations and attacks inside Lebanese territory at a depth of up to 10 kilometers constitutes a clear violation of the first clause of the Memorandum of Understanding and the Framework Agreement, which prompted it to raise the level of its objection to the concerned authorities.
These data come at a time when political and diplomatic circles are following the repercussions of the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran, which opened the door to a new negotiating phase extending for 60 days with the aim of reaching broader understandings that address several regional files.
The Lebanese file stands out as one of the most sensitive files at this stage, in light of the continuation of Israeli military operations in the south, and increasing warnings that any violation of the announced understandings may directly reflect on the course of negotiations between Washington and Tehran, and threaten to reshuffle the cards at the level of the entire region.
