The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) explained the circumstances of the delay in the Uruguay national team’s trip to Miami, after the delegation was denied entry due to the lack of some required documents.

The plane of the Uruguay national team, participating in the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico, was prevented from entering Miami due to a lack of some documents imposed by American law.

FIFA said in an official statement that the delay of the Uruguay national team’s flight from Cancun to Miami was “due to an error in the airline’s statement in Mexico,” noting that the company apologized for the inconvenience that occurred.

He added that the International Federation remained in close contact with the Uruguay national team throughout the delay period, and worked alongside the airport administration and the relevant authorities to speed up procedures and reduce any impact on the team’s travel arrangements.

The Uruguay national team will begin its 2026 World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia at dawn on Tuesday, in Group H, which also includes Spain and Cape Verde.
