The Ivory Coast national team got off to a strong start in the 2026 World Cup, after deciding its match against Ecuador with a fatal goal in the last minutes, at Lincoln Field in Philadelphia, in the fifth group competitions.

The only goal of the match came in the 90th minute through substitute Amad Diallo, the Manchester United striker, after a distinguished individual attack led by defender Wilfried Singo, before the ball reached Diallo inside the area and he shot it into the net.

With this victory, the Ivory Coast team shared the top spot in the group with Germany, which beat Curacao 7-1, with the German team having the advantage in goal difference.

The Ivory Coast team also achieved its first victory over a South American team in the history of its participation in the World Cup, after three previous defeats against Argentina, Brazil and Colombia.

Ecuador was the most dangerous party in the first half, threatening Ivory Coast’s goal through Ener Valencia and Alain Minda, before the Ivorian national team’s performance improved after the break.

Elie Wahi almost opened the scoring for Ivory Coast, but his shot bounced off the crossbar, while Sekou Fofana wasted another opportunity.

In the last minute of regular time, Singo started from the middle of the field, passing more than one player, then sent a cross to Diallo, who decided the match and gave his country three valuable points at the beginning of their campaign.
