Fars Agency directed sharp and unprecedented criticism at Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, accusing him of adopting a “vague diplomatic approach” in his dealings with the statements of US President Donald Trump.
The agency considered that Araqchi’s recent responses, especially through his tweet in English about the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, did not include a direct denial of the American allegations, but rather contributed to “indirect support” for Trump’s narrative and serving his media interests.
She pointed out that Araqchi’s call on the media to “refrain from speculating” about the content of the agreement created an atmosphere of ambiguity, considering that this method raises questions about whether it reflects a decline in the Iranian position or indirect coordination with the American proposal.
She pointed out that Trump quickly took advantage of this ambiguity, by re-publishing Araqchi’s tweet, to use it to confirm his story about the leaks of the agreement and his claim that Tehran had offered a special apology to Washington.
In this context, the agency considered that the silence or ambiguity of Iranian officials regarding these allegations may be interpreted as “tacit approval,” demanding an “explicit and decisive” official clarification responding to the American accusations.
Fares concluded her criticism by emphasizing that the current stage requires diplomatic clarity in the face of what she described as “hostile allegations,” warning that ambiguity in positions may be in the interest of the other party.
