Florentino Pérez decided the presidential elections for Real Madrid, after the Spanish club announced that he had won the position for a new term extending 4 years.

Perez competed with Enrique Riquelme for the presidency of the Royal Club, in elections that began on Sunday morning and continued until the evening, before the vote counting process ended and the results were officially announced.

According to Real Madrid’s statement, Perez received 65% of the votes, compared to 35% for his competitor Riquelme, to be elected club president for the third time.

Perez said, in statements published by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”: “This is a very happy day for Real Madrid fans. Thank you very much for your support. Without your votes, winning this election would not have been possible.”

He added: “We won in all the polling stations, and achieved the second best result in the history of Real Madrid elections. The results could have been better had it not been for the appeals of some votes. We have set an example of transparency and democracy.”

Perez continued: “We are very proud to have the best players in the world, and the return of one of the best coaches in the world, Jose Mourinho. Real Madrid was and will remain the property of its members.”

He concluded: “I want to continue building a club that remains at the top of all global rankings, so that we can continue to achieve victories until we reach the sixteenth Champions League title. I will do my best to address the concerns of the members who did not vote for me.”

It is expected that Real Madrid will issue an official statement regarding the details of the contract with Jose Mourinho to coach the team, in addition to announcing the deals for Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate.
