On Sunday, the Israeli army and the Shin Bet General Security Service announced the implementation of an operation in the southern Gaza Strip last week, which they said resulted in the killing of Saqr Abu Karim, whom they described as the commander of the elite unit of the Hamas movement and one of the participants in the incursion into the Kissufim area during the attack on October 7, 2023.
The Israeli army said, through its account on the “X” platform, that Abu Karim continued during the war to plan attacks against the Israeli forces operating in the Gaza Strip, adding that he recently violated the ceasefire agreement, and that the site where he was located contained weapons suspected of being used to reorganize and train members of the movement.
He added that the operation also resulted in the killing of another Hamas member who was working in the field of communications.
The Israeli army confirmed that Southern Command forces continue to deploy in the region as part of what it described as ongoing field missions to eliminate potential threats.
Earlier today, the Israeli army announced the killing of a member of the Hamas movement, Muhannad Othman Farwaneh, following an air strike that targeted him in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army spokeswoman said, in a statement on the “X” platform, that Farwaneh was leading a cell in the movement’s military wing, noting that he was killed during “a precise air strike aimed at removing the threat.”
She added that Farwana was involved, throughout the war and the last weeks, in planning and implementing operations targeting Israeli forces.
