US President Donald Trump revealed that his administration had previously discussed implementing an operation aimed at removing the stock of highly enriched uranium from Iran, but the plan was not implemented due to logistical and military complications that would have required a field presence for weeks inside Iranian territory.
Trump explained, during statements he made at the White House, that dealing with Iranian uranium is not an easy task, given its presence in fortified sites that require large supplies and equipment to access and deal with it.
“We thought about doing it, but it would require staying there for two weeks and a lot of equipment,” he said.
The US President stressed that the United States is closely monitoring Iranian nuclear sites, warning that any attempt to transfer nuclear materials or approach them will be closely monitored.
He also issued a warning to Tehran, considering that any targeting of American soldiers might lead to the resumption of military operations, adding: “If American soldiers are killed, this will be an excuse to return to war. Whether there is an agreement or war, we will win.”
Trump’s statements come at a time when negotiations continue between Washington and Tehran amid differences over the nuclear file and Iranian funds frozen abroad, which is one of the most prominent points of disagreement between the two sides.
