Indonesian Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto announced on Tuesday that the government intends to launch an additional economic stimulus package worth approximately 7.8 trillion rupiah (about 438.82 million dollars) during 2026.
The new package includes a set of measures aimed at supporting economic activity, including discounts on air, land and sea transport services, in addition to a paid internal training program, in addition to the government bearing the value-added tax on airline tickets, as Erlanga explained to reporters.
The minister said: “We hope that these measures together will contribute to stimulating economic growth during the second quarter of the year,” according to Reuters.
The administration of President Prabowo Subianto had previously announced a similar stimulus package in September last year, before it was extended several times later.
In a related context, the Indonesian government raised fuel subsidy allocations, with the aim of alleviating the effects of rising global crude oil prices on citizens.
Of the total value of the package amounting to 7.8 trillion rupees, the government will allocate 190 billion rupees for discounts on air, land and sea transportation services during the school holidays that begin next month, benefiting about 3.07 million people.
161.4 billion rupees were also allocated to support similar discounts on transportation during the end-of-year holidays.
Under the new measures, the government will also cover the value-added tax on airline tickets during this year’s school holidays at a value of 472.7 billion rupees, in addition to covering it during the end-of-year holidays at a value of 722 billion rupees.
The package also includes 4.14 trillion rupiah for a paid internship program in July, targeting about 150,000 participants, in addition to 2.12 trillion rupiah allocated to support a national vocational training program.
