Deportivo La Coruna decided to return to the Spanish League after an absence of eight seasons, after defeating Real Valladolid with two unanswered goals in the penultimate round of the second division.

Cameroonian striker Bill Nsongo led his team to victory by scoring both goals in the match, ensuring that the Galician club finished the season in second place with 77 points, two points behind leaders Racing Santander.

Racing Santander also won promotion to La Liga in the last round, returning to the top flight for the first time in 14 years.

Deportivo La Coruña is considered one of the historical clubs in Spanish football, having previously reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2004, when it included prominent names such as Juan Carlos Valeron and Diego Tristan, before losing to Porto under the leadership of coach Jose Mourinho.
