Weeks before the start of the 2026 World Cup, Argentine soccer star Lionel Messi opined that there are teams that “seem to be in a better position” than his country’s national team.

Messi stressed that Argentine fans are right to dream of winning the World Cup title for the second time in a row, but at the same time he warned of the strength of the competitors.

Messi said in an interview published on YouTube with journalist Paulo Alvarez: “There are many players who suffer injuries or a lack of physical preparedness, but when the group comes together, it has always proven that it is capable of competing and striving to win.”

The star, who won the Ballon d’Or eight times, added that the competition will be very strong, noting that “France is in a wonderful state again, and has a large number of players at the highest level,” referring to the team that lost to Argentina in the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Messi also nominated Spain and Brazil to compete, describing Portugal as a “very competitive team,” stressing that Germany and England always remain among the dangerous teams. He stressed that some of these teams appear to be in a better position than Argentina.

The American Inter Miami star, who will turn 39 next June, has not officially decided his participation in the next World Cup, scheduled between June 11 and July 19 in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Despite this, Messi stressed that he does not set a time limit on his football career, as his passion for competition continues.

He said: “I love playing football, and I will continue to do so until I can no longer play.”
