The agreement was signed at the government headquarters, on the Lebanese side by the Minister of Energy and Water, Joe Al-Saddi, and on the Egyptian side by the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly.
Following the signing, Madbouly indicated that “this agreement comes within the framework of supporting and enhancing aspects of cooperation with the Lebanese government in various fields and sectors, especially the energy sector,” stressing that it “is an actual translation of the results of the visit he made to Beirut last December.”
For his part, Al-Saddi stressed that “maintaining gas lines in Lebanon is the first practical step in the framework of his efforts to transfer the energy sector in Lebanon to production through gas, because this path has positive aspects in terms of saving the cost of production and reducing negative repercussions on the environment.”
Badawi said: “Under the agreement, the Technical Company for Gas Line Operating Services (TGS) will undertake the repair and rehabilitation work for gas lines with a length of approximately 30 km, in addition to raising the efficiency of the reduction and metering stations and the associated electricity stations.”
He pointed out that “the works include implementing mechanical installations and modernizing PLC automatic control systems, and SCADA supervision, control and data collection systems, in addition to conducting the necessary technical and operational tests, in preparation for restarting the lines and stations with high efficiency and reliability.” (National News Agency)
