Close the separate Messenger application and fully integrate it into Facebook

As part of its effort to integrate messaging services into the main Facebook platform, Meta has begun gradually closing the “Messenger.com” website dedicated to the Messenger application in different regions, and it is expected that it will be completely shut down globally in the coming hours.

As a result of this change, users will be automatically directed to the Messages section within Facebook, where they can easily continue their conversations without losing any data.

Meta confirmed that the “Messenger.com” website will no longer be available to send or receive messages, as access to the service via the web has become only available through the Facebook platform itself.

This measure comes after discontinuing the Messenger applications for computers running the Windows and Mac operating systems, which reflects the company’s trend towards ending independent versions and focusing on providing a unified experience for users.

For PC users, they will no longer be able to use Messenger through its standalone website, but will have to log in to Facebook to access their messages. As for users who are accustomed to using Messenger without a Facebook account, they may be affected by this change, as web access is no longer available to them, but they can continue to use the application on their smartphones.

Despite these changes, Meta confirmed that the Messenger application on smartphones will continue to function normally without any change, ensuring continued communication for users.

This move reflects Meta’s strategy to unify its services, reduce reliance on independent applications and websites, and focus on integrating the user experience within the core Facebook platform.

Strong competition
This news sparked a new discussion about the future of messaging applications, especially in light of the intense competition from other applications such as: WhatsApp and Telegram, which offer advanced features and continuous updates. Analysts believe that this competition may push companies to make fateful decisions to maintain their position in the market.

Some experts believe that the reason for the closure of the Messenger website may be part of a broader restructuring strategy within the company, aimed at unifying its services or improving the user experience across other platforms. The company has previously made major changes to its services, whether by integrating features or discontinuing some applications that no longer achieve sufficient spread.

Economic impacts
On the other hand, users expressed their dissatisfaction with the loss of the Messenger website, especially since it represents an easy and quick way to communicate and is directly linked to their Facebook accounts.

Many small businesses also depend on it to communicate with customers, which makes any change in it have a noticeable economic impact.
