Tension escalates in Iran: Tehran is on alert and confronts unknown drones

Iranian media announced on Wednesday evening that air defense systems had been activated in a number of Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, and Kerman, coinciding with the sound of an explosion being heard in the Iranian capital.

The reports explained that “air defenses were activated in Tehran and some areas of Alborz Governorate to target drones, the source of which is still unknown.”

Iranian state television also announced, based on a statement issued by the Revolutionary Guard, that an Israeli Hermes 900 drone had been shot down in the sky of the city of Lar, located in Fars Province, southern Iran.

The statement also stated that “an advanced Hermes 900 drone was intercepted and destroyed by fire from the Revolutionary Guards’ air defense system,” with a warning that “the entry of any type of American or Israeli aircraft into Iranian airspace, even without carrying out military operations, is considered a violation of the ceasefire and will be responded to firmly.”

These events come in the context of a temporary truce between the United States and Iran, which was reached with Pakistani mediation, after a conflict that lasted about six weeks and left thousands dead, and caused negative effects on the region, especially in the field of energy supplies.

US President Donald Trump announced this agreement a few hours before the deadline he set for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz expired, while Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced the invitation of the Iranian and American delegations to hold official talks in Islamabad on Friday, which is the first meeting of its kind since the beginning of the war, and confirmed that the Iranian president agreed to attend.
