Al-Aqsa: Widespread condemnations and a Qatari warning against worsening the situation

The State of Qatar expressed its strong condemnation of the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, storming the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, considering this act as a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and a provocation to the feelings of Muslims around the world.”

In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Doha’s absolute rejection of any infringement on the religious and historical status of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and stressed the need for the international community to fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities towards the city of Jerusalem and its sanctities, and to strongly confront what it described as ongoing violations.

Qatar also reaffirmed its firm position on the Palestinian issue, affirming its support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to practice worship freely, and establishing their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

It is noteworthy that this position comes after the Israeli Minister of National Security stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque under heavy Israeli police guard, which sparked widespread condemnation in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

This raid coincided with intense security restrictions in the Old City of Jerusalem, including restrictions on the entry of worshipers into Al-Aqsa Mosque, which caused escalation of field tension and skirmishes in its vicinity.

Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered one of the most prominent hotbeds of tension in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, as incursions are repeated by Israeli officials and settlers, amid continuous warnings of the dire consequences of these actions on stability in the city and the entire region.
