As the end of support for previous Windows 11 releases approaches, Microsoft has automatically begun installing Windows 11 25H2 on unmanaged devices.
Although October is still some distance away, “Windows 11 24H2” will by then reach the end of the update period, which prompts the company to increase the scope of the rollout of the latest version to ensure that security updates continue to reach the largest segment of users.
In an update on the “Windows 11 24H2” release status page, Microsoft indicated that the “Home” and “Pro” versions of this system will reach the end of updates on October 13, 2026, which means known bug fixes, time zone updates, technical support, security updates and monthly preview will stop.
She also explained that “Windows 11 25H2” is now the latest version of the system available.
She also pointed out that devices that are not managed by IT departments, and that are running the “24H2” version of “Windows 11 Home” and “Pro,” will receive the “25H2” update automatically, with the ability to choose the time to restart or postpone the update.
In a separate announcement, the company confirmed that “Windows 11 25H2” is now available for all compatible devices, noting that it has expanded the scope of the smart update process based on machine learning to include all unmanaged devices that are ready to move to the new version.
Microsoft explained that users can check for the presence of the update through “Settings,” then “Windows Update” and choosing “Check for updates,” where the option to download and install “Windows 11 25H2” will appear if the device is compatible.
