Egypt concludes an agreement to establish the first solar energy station in the mining sector

The New Valley Mineral Resources and Oil Shale Company (WADICO), one of the companies affiliated with the Egyptian Petroleum Sector, signed an agreement to establish the first integrated solar energy station operating with the “Off-Grid” system in mining sites, with a capacity of up to 3.2 megawatts at the “Al-Shaghab” site in Aswan Governorate.

This agreement was signed with the international company “Asunim Egypt”, during the activities of the Egypt International Energy Exhibition and Conference “EGYPS 2026”.

This project aims to achieve a significant improvement in the efficiency of operations, as it will be used to supply power to electrical equipment used in mining, including dumpers and loaders, in addition to operating three production lines dedicated to phosphate ore, and providing the necessary energy for camps and administrative buildings.

This project is expected to provide about 2.6 million liters of diesel annually, which contributes directly to reducing operating costs and reducing the value of fuel imports to the country, within the framework of the strategy of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

At the environmental level, the station will contribute effectively to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by up to 7.3 thousand tons annually, which supports Egypt’s international commitments in the field of combating climate change.

Company officials stated that this project represents a model that can be replicated in various other mining sites, with the aim of enhancing reliance on renewable energy sources and consolidating the concept of “green mining” in Egypt.
