Iranian Shura Council Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf mocked statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in which he claimed that Iran would have been a “different country” if it had spent its money on its people instead of military spending.
Commenting on the ongoing war waged by the US administration against Iran, Rubio told ABC: “Imagine if Iran, instead of spending billions on weapons, spent that money on its people, they would have a completely different country,” and pointed out that “the Iranians may want to move forward in a different direction with their new government.”
In his response, Qalibaf quoted the American minister’s own statement, then added to it in a caustic and sarcastic manner, considering that Rubio’s words reveal his true intentions.
He wrote on his account on the “X” platform: “Yes… if they had not spent their money on weapons, that would have been great for us ‘the Americans’, and then we could have entered and seized all the Iranian oil fields within 48 hours… 48 hours, believe me… and provide the Israelis with the best weapons to create more than a new Gaza (in Iran).”
Qalibaf concluded his post with a definitive statement: “This is the true American dream, gentlemen… pipe dreams… that will never come true.”
It is worth noting that the American-Israeli military operation against Iran has been continuing since February 28, while Tehran is responding by launching attacks targeting American bases in the region and sites inside Israel, in addition to closing the Strait of Hormuz to ships that it considers linked to the aggressor parties.
