Decision from the Ministry of Agriculture regarding potato prices in the markets

The Ministry of Agriculture, in coordination with the Bekaa Potato Growers Syndicate, announced the provision of a limited amount of potatoes imported from Egypt. This quantity will be offered in the local markets at a maximum price of “400,000 Lebanese pounds per 10 kg.” This step comes as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at controlling prices and reducing fluctuations in the market, pending the start of potato production in Akkar, which is expected to appear on the markets starting in the first week of April. It is expected that the quantities produced locally will cover the full needs of the market by the middle of the month.

The Ministry explained that this initiative aims to relieve pressure on citizens, enhance “food security,” and combat “exploitation.” This step comes as part of practical policies aimed at supporting both the “farmer” and the “consumer,” and stabilizing “the steadfastness of the agricultural sector.”
