An attempt to smuggle Captagon from Lebanon was repelled, and clashes erupted on the Syrian border

Members of the Syrian Army’s border guards succeeded in thwarting the smuggling operation of a quantity of narcotic Captagon tablets, which were heading from Lebanese territory towards the Jurd Assal al-Ward area located along the border.

The Department of Media and Communications at the Ministry of Defense stated in a statement to SANA that armed clashes broke out between the forces and the smugglers, before the smugglers fled the place. She added that specialized units are continuing search and combing operations in the area with the aim of arresting those involved.

In a related context, the Narcotics Control Administration, in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces, confirmed the continuation of its increased efforts to combat the drug menace, and indicated that it had seized and destroyed huge quantities of narcotic substances during the past few months.

She explained that these materials were manufactured and promoted within the country by the “former regime,” in addition to being exported to neighboring countries and other regions around the world.
