US President Donald Trump sharpens his rhetoric towards Iran, and asserts that the United States is “destroying Iranian capabilities and crushing them in an unprecedented manner,” in the context of the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
In his speech at the “Future Investment” Forum in Miami, Trump explained that his decision to withdraw from the previous nuclear agreement prevented Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, declaring that “if I had not withdrawn from the nuclear agreement, Tehran would have used nuclear weapons in the Middle East.”
He continued, saying, “Iran was the biggest bully in the Middle East and is no longer so,” stressing that “the United States is destroying the Iranian regime and we have the strongest army in the world.”
Trump reiterated that his country “will never allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon,” noting that Tehran contacted him and told him to send eight oil tankers “to prove the sincerity of intentions,” and then later sent two additional ships.
Trump also announced that the United States “today dealt a major blow to Iran and it was a good day from a military standpoint,” and at the same time called on Iran to “open the Strait of Hormuz,” stressing the importance of ensuring the security of navigation in the region.
