The head of the Federation of Tourist Syndicates and the head of the Syndicate of Hotel Owners, Pierre Al-Achkar, announced that hotels are no longer exposed to the dangers they faced previously, thanks to their careful implementation of security measures in cooperation with the relevant security authorities, which aim to verify the identities of guests.
In a statement today, Al-Ashqar explained that this adherence to the procedures comes out of hotel owners’ concern for their property, and workers’ fear for their safety, in addition to the fact that customers prefer not to stay in places where they do not feel adequate security measures are taken. He revealed the details of the work mechanism followed, whereby “the customer’s data is sent upon his arrival to Public Security, which is responsible for uncovering any circumstances through its own database.”
Regarding the tourism situation, Al-Ashqar explained that “the hotel occupancy rate currently ranges between 9 and 11%,” pointing out that the guests are not only displaced people, but also include “journalists and embassy employees who have moved from tense areas, in addition to customers staying for long periods at reasonable prices.”
