Puma announced the two new designs for the Portuguese national team’s shirts, the primary and the reserve, in preparation for the World Cup that will be held this summer. Cristiano Ronaldo “CR7” is expected to wear these shirts during what may be his last participation in a major tournament.
The design takes inspiration from Portugal’s maritime heritage. The home shirt maintains its traditional colors, dark red with touches of dark green, in addition to light wavy lines that symbolize the Atlantic Ocean and reflect the rhythmic energy of the Portuguese people and their constant pursuit of success.
The away shirt is white with teal wave patterns, a reference to the close relationship between Portugal and the ocean. In the design of the two shirts, Puma combined this symbolic dimension with the lightweight “ULTRAWEAVE” technology, which was designed to provide natural movement without any restrictions.
David McKenzie, chief designer at PUMA Teamsport, said the goal was not just to design a shirt, but to evoke the “heaviness of history and the yearning for glory” that Portugal carries, adding that the wave design is a tribute to the “steadfast, strong and unstoppable” Portuguese spirit.
Before the start of the tournament, the Portuguese national team will wear the new jersey during the current international break. The players will wear the main jersey in their match against Mexico, while they will wear the reserve jersey against the US national team next week.
