Prior warnings were of no use: the southern suburb was subjected to direct bombardment

In a development on the ground that heralds a dangerous escalation of events, Israel carried out an air strike targeting the southern suburb of Beirut, in light of a tense atmosphere and previous warnings that included many areas.

A reporter indicated that the Israeli raid targeted the area around Haret Hreik and Al-Safir in the southern suburb, where the echo of the explosion resonated in various parts of the capital, with the continued intense flight of warplanes.

This attack comes after a series of raids that targeted towns in southern Lebanon during the past hours, including Zawtar al-Gharbiyya, Taybah, Ramia, the vicinity of Yater, Beit Lev, and the outskirts of Majdal Silm, in addition to bombing homes in Khiam and Rab Thilaine, and an Israeli force incursion into Aita al-Shaab, where it installed surveillance equipment towards Rmeish.

The Israeli army spokesman had previously issued warnings to residents of a number of neighborhoods in the southern suburb, including Haret Hreik, Al-Ghobeiry, Al-Laylaki, Al-Hadath, Burj Al-Barajneh, Tahouitet Al-Ghadir, and Al-Shiyah, demanding their immediate evacuation, in light of the army’s announcement of expanding its operations against what it called “military infrastructure.”

This recent development in the suburb reflects a shift in the nature of attacks from border villages to areas deeper in Lebanese territory, in parallel with the continued targeting of bridges over the Litani River and the isolation of the south from the rest of the regions, which indicates a more severe and more extensive escalation phase in the confrontation.

The region is currently in a state of high alert, and all eyes are on what will happen in the next phase, with the continuation of raids, ground operations, and mutual warnings.
