MP Salim Al-Sayegh criticized Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s statements regarding members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard holding Lebanese passports inside Lebanon, considering that “disclosure alone is not enough,” and demanded that urgent steps be taken.
In his post on the “X” platform, Al-Sayegh said that he appreciated Salam’s courage in disclosing this information, but he stressed the importance of addressing it legally and security-wise, and called for this issue to be considered “public information” before the discriminatory Public Prosecution.
He also called for an investigation to be opened with the parties that handed over the passports, and to identify those responsible for what he described as a dangerous precedent that harms the reputation of public security and the state.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Nawaf Salam had stated to Al-Hadath TV yesterday that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is present in Lebanon and supervising military operations, referring to the launch of drones from Lebanese territory towards Cyprus.
Salam explained that members of the Revolutionary Guard are residing in Lebanon illegally and with forged passports, and stressed that work to implement the government’s decision to remove them from Lebanon is “under implementation.”
He also announced the arrest of Hezbollah individuals who were carrying weapons, and affirmed his rejection of the return of using Lebanon as a platform to harm Arab countries. He pointed out that the Lebanese state denounced during the Riyadh meeting cells affiliated with Hezbollah operating in Arab countries.
Regarding governmental affairs, Salam stated that there is currently no discussion about a ministerial reshuffle, and that he is committed to all ministers, stressing that the state remains the only refuge for all Lebanese, and that the majority of the Lebanese people support the government’s decisions.
