Oman national team appointed Arab Cup champion

The Omani Football Association announced the appointment of Moroccan coach Tariq Al-Saktiwi as technical director of the first national team. This decision comes after the mutual termination of the contract with veteran Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz.

It is noteworthy that Queiroz, who is 73 years old, took over the task of coaching the Oman national team in July 2025 with a one-year contract. However, after a series of results that did not live up to the desired level, his term ended. During his supervision of the team in 11 matches, he achieved only three victories, while suffering three defeats and a draw in five matches. In addition, the team bid farewell to the Arab Cup in the group stage, and was unable to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after losing in the Asian playoff.

Some media sources reported that “Quiroz apologized for not completing his mission due to the situation in the Middle East.”

On the other hand, the selection of Al-Saktiwi, who is 48 years old, comes after a career full of achievements. He led “the Moroccan national team to win the title of the last edition of the Arab Cup, which was held in Qatar,” and he also achieved “the Moroccan Olympic team to achieve the bronze medal in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.”

The Omani Federation did not disclose details regarding the duration of the contract or its financial value. The Omani national team is currently looking forward to participating in the 2027 Asian Cup finals, which will be held in Saudi Arabia.
