Attacks targeting embassies destabilize Iraq...and a warning of dire international consequences!

Sabah Al-Numan, the official spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, explained on Sunday that investigations are still ongoing into the issue of targeting diplomatic missions and embassies, warning that these actions may push the international community to isolate Iraq.

Al-Numan told the Iraqi News Agency, saying: “Investigations are continuing regarding the operations that targeted diplomatic missions and embassies with gunfire,” and added: “It is inappropriate to reveal the details of the investigations at the present time.”

He added: “The President of the Supreme Judicial Council included these acts within the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005, and therefore they are considered terrorist and condemnable acts, because of the embarrassment they cause to Iraq, the undermining of its diplomatic standing, and may lead to its isolation in the international community.”

He pointed out that “the government has constantly worked to restore Iraq’s international standing, to be influential and part of the solution to the region’s problems.”

He continued: “Iraq has held important positions over the past years, including the presidency of the Arab Summit and the presidency of some international bodies, which enhances its position and its influential role globally.”

He stressed “the effort to defuse tension in the region,” explaining that Prime Minister “Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani” warned that any security action in the region will affect everyone.

In a related context, the Baghdad International Airport complex, which includes a logistical support center affiliated with the US Embassy, was subjected to a series of missile and drone attacks during the night of Saturday/Sunday.

An official in the Iraqi Joint Operations Command told Agence France-Presse that there had been eight separate attacks until dawn on Sunday, using missiles and drones, as some of the missiles landed near the logistical support center without causing any casualties.

He added that a drone fell on a citizen’s house in the Al-Saydiya area near the airport, causing material damage.

In a related context, another security official stated that at least six attacks had occurred, while the police found, at dawn on Sunday, in the Al-Jihad neighborhood, a car carrying a rocket launcher used to target the logistical support center, and it was abandoned in an abandoned parking lot, according to what a police official said.
