The “Greater Tel Aviv” area witnessed on Tuesday-Wednesday night a very dangerous military escalation, as an Iranian fission missile fell, killing two people and wounding a number of others, in addition to massive destruction to buildings and infrastructure, according to what was reported by the Israeli media.
Reports indicated that the missile, which was launched from Iran, disintegrated in the air into a large amount of bombs and explosive warheads, before exploding, causing a massive flash, a scene that was documented in widely circulated video clips.
Israeli ambulance services announced the killing of a man and a woman in their seventies in the city of Ramat Gan, south of Tel Aviv, in addition to the wounding of others with varying injuries as a result of the missile attack.
Israeli Channel 12 reported that the two victims were found inside the stairwell of a damaged building, and noted that the apartment was not equipped with a fortified room, which increased the seriousness of the strike.
In parallel, fires broke out in several locations, and major destruction was recorded at a train station in central “Tel Aviv,” where the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation confirmed the occurrence of severe damage, while the railway company announced that train traffic had been temporarily halted due to damage to the platforms of the “Tel Aviv Savidor – Center” station.
Reports also indicated that a number of people were injured in various areas within “Greater Tel Aviv,” amid ongoing rescue operations to search for those trapped inside the damaged buildings.
The Israeli army announced that rescue forces continue to comb the sites that were bombed, in conjunction with the efforts of ambulance teams working to evacuate the injured and secure the affected areas.
This attack comes in the context of a large-scale escalation taking place in the region, as Iran previously announced the implementation of intense missile strikes targeting sites inside Israel, using multi-warhead missiles, as part of its response to targeting Iranian leaders.
This coincides with a field escalation on the Lebanese front, as Beirut witnessed at dawn today violent Israeli raids targeting residential neighborhoods, in addition to strikes in the south and the Bekaa, which reflects the expansion of the scope of the confrontation on more than one front.
The use of fission missiles to target “Tel Aviv” represents a qualitative development in the nature of the attacks, which increases the level of concern that the confrontation is entering a more dangerous phase, with the continued exchange of strikes and the expansion of the scope of military operations in the region.
